Richard Swanson: Sculpture 2000-2004

Scissors and paper were the design tools for almost all the work I did during this period. I call these sculptures my “cutout” series. In a spontaneous process of folding and expanding shapes cut from paper, volume and negative space are created simultaneously, resulting in unexpected new forms. Out of many paper designs I picked a few of the most successful to scale up in metal.
